Tinea is a skin infection caused by a fungus. Tinea can also be referred to as ringworm. This is because it might generate ring-shaped red areas on the skin. Worms, though, are not to blame. Different forms of fungi are to blame. Tinea can spread to any portion of the body. It is especially common near hair and in moist parts of the body. The fungus can be passed from one person to another.

Tinea may be difficult to treat. The most difficult infections to cure are ringworm on the scalp and nail infections. The length of treatment is determined by the tinea’s location. Fungi can survive for a long period on the surface of the skin. As a result, tinea infection is difficult to treat and might recur frequently. It’s possible that the treatment will need to be repeated.

Tinea of the scalp can also develop into a kerion. This is a large, painful, swollen sore over the area of the tinea infection.
